Retreats & Workshops

I lead holistic, in-person writing retreats that bring coaching clients together across many miles. Along with self-discovery, research rebooting, & writing process building, clients create lasting relationships with each other. Writing retreats empower & support clients so they can go back home & write with a clearer purpose, having made concrete steps toward liberating themselves & others in beautiful one-on-one spaces.

NEXT WRITING RETREAT: JANUARY 10-12, 2025

at the beautiful, historic Guild House Hotel in Philadelphia

evening of January 10th through morning of January 12th

The theme for this retreat will be "STRENGTHEN.” We will explore strengthening our own writing practices in sustainable ways as we know that the challenges we are facing are huge. We will rediscover & remember & repurpose the strengths we already have. We will practice some new ways to root out our strengths. We will strengthen each other. Right now we need each other just as much as we need to make sure we have concrete ways to hold on to who we are as researchers & writers. I am so excited to have you meet each other. This January writing retreat will be limited to a small group of writers so you each will have time one-on-one with me.

Sign up for the retreat by going to my online calendar. I am also happy to schedule a free chat about the retreat if you have questions before you sign up. Scheduling calendar: https://joyajhowardcoaching.as.me/

Registration for THE JANUARY 2025 retreat will close December 31st

Joy also facilitates other small, interactive workshops & meetings for cowriters, research groups, & labs that concrete on practices that lead to healthy relationships, clear communication, clarity, depth, & productivity. (See below.)

CIRCLES OF TRUST

Modeled after what Quakers call “Circles of Trust” or “Clearness Committees,” I lead research partners and groups through a discussion that is meant to open up space for many ideas, not narrow down on the “right” ones.

ABOUT WRITING

Through guided dialogue, I share key concepts of wellness & writing productively in academia. Researchers find it helpful to have their graduate students or research group members all on the same page.

WHERE DO WE GO NOW?

When research partners or groups are stuck, they hire me to lead them through identifying the sticking points and creating a concrete plan for moving forward.
